Rosie's Profile

Foster Dog Name: Rosie

Physical Appearance

Approximate Age: 8 yrs old (Birthday in April 1999)

Sex: F

Breed Type: English Pointer

Color B&W

Size: medium

Weight: 44lbs

Personality

High/Low Maintenance: Low maintenance as long as it is not raining....

Temperament: AWESOME with kids and cats
Energy Level: Loves to Run and Loves to Laze... Happy just to be in a family!
Lap/Velcro Dog or Independent/ Loner: VELCRO!!!!
Riding in Car: LOVES IT!
Birdiness: Could not care less...but did chase some butterflies around when we were in MI last summer.

Interactions

Adults (Males-Females): Great now with both--used to be a little man-shy, but now she is a downright flirt!
Little Kids: GREAT! But they still have to be able to be respectful of "Rosie's ouchy legs."
Other Dogs: Rosie is fine with our Weim, and did great with a lot of the fosters--esp puppies, but she did not care of the labs that came visiting, so it depends on the dog
Cats: GREAT!
Strangers: Very open and loving.
Barking: Barks when appropriate (someone at the door or something) ...she mostly "roo-roos."
Inside House: A couch potato.
Outside in the Yard: A yard potato. Likes to dig a "bed" in the dirt under the swing set and lie there where it is cool. But she has learned to stay out of my gardens by voice control.
Away from Home: Rosie is just grateful to be in on the fun. She travels very well.

Training

Commands: No, sit, down, "paws up" (to allow on the couch or bed) Get out of the garden! :) Get out of the garbage! :) Doing much better at "stay" --we use the word, "wait" with an "ok" release.
Potential as Hunting Companion: zero--extremely gun shy
Agility: She would enjoy it, but she does have hip dysplasia in one hip, so it would be somewhat limited.
Housebreaking: Good
Crate Training: Good, except during thunderstorms
Leash Walking: Is fine with the English Slip Lead or other type of harness

Health

Appetite: Very healthy--no teeth, but she still wolfs down that kibble!

General Health: Rosie has one bad hip and one bad knee. She gets sore sometimes, but in general does very well.

Ongoing Medication/Maintenance needed: She will need to stay on joint supplements.

Foster Parent Evaluation of the dog

Special Qualities: Rosie is grateful and dedicated. She is so happy just to be in a family. She is loyal and loving.

Type of Family/Home for best placement: She would do best in a lively home but would bond well with one or two adults as well. She has a strong sense of family but is still open to meeting new people especially if they will give her belly rubs too!

Special Requirements/Needs: Her new family will have to continue working with her on her extreme nervousness during thunder storms.

Fence Requirements: 4ft is fine. Due to her hip issues, she does not jump.
