Alice Anne's Profile

Foster Dog Name: Alice Anne

Physical Appearance

Approximate Age: Approximately 6 years

Sex: Female

Breed Type: English Pointer

Color: Brown/white

Size: Medium

Weight: 55lbs

Personality

High/Low Maintenance: Low

Temperament: Shy, mellow, eager to please, submissive, sweet

Energy Level: Medium- requires exercise, but overall a calm house dog
Lap/Velcro Dog or Independent/ Loner: Snuggler when given the option, but not unhappy to amuse herself or spend time alone

Riding in Car: Likes car rides, well behaved

Playful with toys? Not with people, but likes to collect toys and play by herself

Birdiness: Unknown

Interactions

Adults (Males-Females) in home: Shy at first, snuggly and responsive to either once settled

Little Kids: In home, unknown. With visiting kids- shy at first, but very tolerant of petting, poking, pulling

Meeting Visitors/Strangers: Looks to known handler for reassurance on leash, heads for her ‘safe place’ (crate/kennel) at home, but does come out to investigate within a short period of time

Other Dogs: Very submissive to med/large dogs, loves to chase/play with small dogs

Playfulness with other dogs: Plays best with small dogs, but appears to desire the companionship of large dogs

Behavior around Cats: Ignores them completely

Barking: Minimal- barks when there’s something to bark at outside, but no random barking at all; very quiet in the house unless someone comes or the other dogs bark first

Behavior Inside House: Paces some when she hasn’t been walked, but generally likes to lie on the sofa and quietly keep watch

Behavior Outside in the Yard: Likes to run in our large (1 + acre) yard, chases with the other dogs, but settles down quickly and goes on toy collection missions, then lies down in a dog house and watches/naps/chews. Does dig some, but limits herself to one spot that I’ve allowed her; not a jumper of fences at all, does fine in the radio fence

Behavior Away from Home (pet store, dog parks, etc): Well behaved, quiet, rarely approaches other people/pets, but is okay with being touched by strangers.

Training

Commands: Come, down (lay down), settle (stop pacing), up (onto sofa/chair); will not sit

Potential as Hunting Companion: Unknown at this time

Agility: No- appears to have old damage to one wrist, and does not jump at all either on people or over fences for whatever reason

Housebreaking: Going well, zero big accidents, occasional small accident if I ignore the pacing that is her ‘out’ sign

Crate Training: Needs a crate for her feeling of security- she has an outside dog house and an inside crate and she uses both whenever she feels nervous or wants a place to be safe i.e. for napping/sleeping

Leash Walking: Pulls some when a gentle leader harness isn’t used

Off-Leash/Recall: Good in the yard, haven’t tried out of the yard

Health

Appetite: Good, tends to self feed

General Health: Good

Ongoing Medication/Maintenance needed: None

Foster Parent Evaluation of the dog

Special Qualities: Always has the appearance of being very happy – she has a big doggy smile and wags so hard she nearly falls over whenever she sees us, even if we’ve only been gone for an hour.

Type of Family/Home for best placement: Could go to a home with kids, cats, or other dogs, but consideration should be taken to make sure that a dominant dog wouldn’t pick on her. She needs someone to walk her daily, and a large yard to play in would be ideal.

Special Requirements/Needs: A couch to nap on =)

Fence Requirements: Any- radio fence is what we have, but she doesn’t go into the garden over a 2 foot fence.

Additional Comments: Extremely well behaved- she doesn’t jump on anyone, she is not destructive at all, and has a desire to please. She is a toy collector, but she doesn’t damage any of her collection, she like’s to chew, but has never damaged anything that is not given to her for that purpose (rawhides, bones). She is our little couch potato, and dearly loves laying on the couches and beds, but did wait until we ‘Okayed’ it before she did it at first.
